General Electric Show’N Tell — 1965

This is kind of cool. Even though it seems this was made by a couple of different manufacturers into the ’80s, I managed to get through childhood never seeing one. I would have been all over this as a kid. (By the way: four speeds? Ever heard of a record that played at 16 2/3 RPM? You have now!)

  1. My grandmother bought me one of these when I was small. The “programs” were film strips mounted in cardboard, which you inserted into the machine, and then played the companion record which told the story. I can’t remember how the film advance worked–whether you pushed a button or something, or if it somehow read a cue from the record to trigger the film to advance.
